Orchid Bloom At Night

Bulbophyllum nocturnum, new orchid species are found on the island of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. This orchid species is the only once that blooms at night.


Kew Garden London discovered a new species of orchids in the island of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. The new species of orchid Bulbophyllum nocturnum named, is the only one among the 25,000 species of orchids that have been described that blooms at night. Uniquely, the orchid's also only bloom overnight.

The discovery of this species originated from theshock of the Dutch scientist, Ed Vogel ve. Hemet Bulbophyllum nocturnum wilt always in a state where it should bloom. Intrigued, he was working with Andre Schuiteman of Kew Gardenand Jaap Vermeulenof from the Center for Biological Diversity, the Netherlands to examine the species of orchids.
